General Conditions
Fishing continued about the same as last week with striped bass continuing to be your best bet. A few big catfish, trout and largemouth bass also provided some action.
The water temperature is now 62.5 degrees and water level is at 50%.
Trout
Trout fishing is slow to fair. We see some trout every day but it takes work. There is no one hot spot. Anglers take a few fish trolling as well as a few fish on bait. Two anglers fishing at the tip of the south cove took 5 trout from 1.5lbs to 3.5lbs. They were using nightcrawlers. No trout plants are scheduled but we hope to plant some trout at the end of April.
Largemouth Bass
We had several regulars report that they caught fish around structure all over the reservoir. A few fish were also caught off of points. Senko’s were the bait of choice. Bass fishing has improved and should continue to improve with warmer weather. Please release the big bass so they can spawn.
Stripers
We would rate trolling for stripers as good for experienced anglers. Trollers did pretty well catching fish from 5 to 15lbs. They also caught lots of shakers in the 16 inch range. Remember legal size is 18 inches. Anglers also caught fish on bait with anchovies and sardines producing results. As always some fisherman did well while others struggled. Trolling rattle traps, rapala’s or sp minnows were good choices. Lures should be in the 4 to 7 inch range. Silver or rainbow patterns seemed to work well. It was important to troll well behind the boat and to cover lots of water. After a fish is caught it is important to focus on that area. Wind kept anglers off the water 2 days last week. Call ahead if you plan to rent a boat.
- Top striper caught was 17.5lbs. Tala Sailele caught this beauty on a sardine fishing from the shore.
- John Cheng and family caught 4 stripers from 11 to 14.5lbs. They were fishing anchovies at the mouth of the south cove.
- Jeremy Selbach took a limit from shore using top water lures. His top fish was 16.3lbs.
- Michael caught a 13.2lb striper trolling at the mouth of peninsula cove.
These are just a few of the outstanding catches as there were numerous other fish of all sizes. In addition many anglers do not show us their fish.
Salmon
Only one 2.5lb salmon was reported this week.
Catfish
Several big catfish were caught this week. Top fish weighed in went 19.8lbs and was caught on chicken liver.
